This document is to support you in understanding your right to privacy, and to disclose the safeguards we practice which protect your private and personal information.

SilverLining SA values and respects your right to privacy and confidentiality, and for your personal information to remain safely protected.

Privacy means that any person has the right to have their personal information to not be told or shown to anyone.

Confidentiality means that there is a duty to keep your personal information private and protected.

Silverlining SA understand that your privacy and confidentiality is important to you.

 

There are laws to protect your personal information. Your personal information belongs to you. We need your permission to collect information about you. We only ask for information we need. We will tell you why we need it. That includes photos and videos too.

Personal information is anything that is about you. This could be:

  • your name
  • where you live
  • your date of birth
  • your job or day activities
  • information about your disability.

Sometimes your personal information is sensitive information. Sensitive information is normally private and can include:

  • Your sexual orientation
  • Your religious practices and beliefs
  • Your cultural background
  • Sensitive information about your health

We will keep your information private. This means we will not tell people your personal information unless we have to and you have given us permission.

Your information helps us provide good, safe and best services.

You do not have to give us your personal information. If you choose not to give us personal information, we may not be able to give you services you need.

We might need to tell other people about you because they give you the services and supports you need.

You need to give consent for us to tell other people your personal information.

Consent means you say ‘yes’ and ‘yes’ means you agree to share your information.

When you commence services with Silverlining, you will sign a Service Agreement, and will also be asked to sign a consent form. By signing this form, you agree to let us keep your personal information on file.

We understand that you may have questions or feedback regarding this policy and your rights, it’s OK to ask us.

Keeping your Information Safe
We will protect your information and only use it for the right reasons, and only show the right people and staff who provide support and services to you.

 

We keep your personal information stored on computers protected with password. We also keep paper records safe in our offices filing cabinet with lock and key. We only keep your personal information as long as we need it and destroy when no longer needed.

The people who work with you need to see your information. It helps them deliver better services.

We will only share your information if:

  • you give permission to share it, or
  • we are very worried about your safety, or
  • if the law requires us to share it.

Keeping your information up to date

Keeping it right! If your information is not correct, we may be unable to do a good job.

Give us correct information, and help us keep it upto date.

If your personal information changes, please let us know.

Moved house? New phone number? New service provider? New contact?

remember to tell us!

We will also check your information regularly, and update it.
